WHAT IS A VALUE PROPOSITION?

A value proposition is a marketing statement that summarizes your competitive advantage and why your consumer should buy your product or use your service.


WHAT MAKES AN EFFECTIVE VALUE PROP?

An effective value proposition is…

  • Informative and defines what you do

  • Explains how your product resolves a pain point for your potential client

  • Clear, concise, and easy to understand

  • Answers the question: “Why should I buy from you instead of any of your competitors?”



BUILDING YOUR VALUE PROP: THE PROCESS

Building your value proposition is a process - use our worksheet to get started! (ACCESS THE WORKSHEET)

  • Identify your service benefits: Make a list of all the benefits your service offers your clients.

  • Link benefits to value offering: How do the benefits of your service create value in your client's life?

  • Differentiate your service: Decide what makes your product unique.

  • Put everything into a clear and easy to read sentence and place it everywhere.

    • Example: My (product or services) help (customer segment) who want to (service value) by (service benefit)

Headline

  • The end value you’re offering in one short sentence. Make it an attention grabber.

Subheadline

  • A specific explanation of what you do/offer, for whom, and why it’s useful.

Bullet points

  • List the key benefits or features of your services.

Visuals

  • Show the product image, the hero shot, or an image reinforcing your main message.

Your Website’s Landing Page

  • It is important to position your value proposition front and center on your land page. Making your value proposition hard to find is a good way to lose traffic website traffic.

Social Media

  • Your value proposition should be listed in the bio of your social media accounts. Consistently posting what you do on your stories and in-feed is important to relay your value to your clients. It's also important to lead with your value proposition when reaching out to new prospects via social media.
